Ahmedabad is the largest city in the state of Gujarat and one of the largest metropolitan areas in India.  A rising center of education, information technology, and scientific industries, it is the cultural and commercial heart of Gujarat and much of western India.  The city's history is told through its collection of landmarks and monuments, including mosques, minarets, mausoleums, museums, step-wells, and temples.  To accommodate the large population of Jain and Hindu communities, most of the restaurants serve only vegetarian food.
