Integrated Project Delivery / BIM
Recent years have seen increased industry awareness about Building Information Modeling (BIM), a digital design process that changes design from its historical, document-based process to one driven by intelligent, data-rich models. Burt Hill's unique approach to the exploration and adoption of BIM tools has garnered recognition as an industry leader and helps us provide integrated, intelligent, and efficient design solutions. Our emphasis on delivery value through knowledge-driven design practices permits our architects, engineers, and planning professionals to focus on high-value tasks; ultimately offering better value to our clients and enhancing the significance of our work in the built environment.

DCCC: Conserving Energy
One reason for Burt Hill’s drive to adopt BIM technology is the analytic possibilities that present themselves once a project team has an accurate model of the building. An important component of our sustainable and design agenda is to design buildings that reduce energy usage to help our clients, and the globe. For the Delaware County Community College STEM project, the team was able to analyze the design’s performance via software, allowing them to make intelligent decisions about what could be done to improve the building’s overall performance while meeting budgetary, aesthetic, program, and other critical components of the design brief.

Our Practice Experts
Jim Summers
As the leader of Burt Hill's firmwide Practice Technology Group, Jim has been involved with the evaluation, testing, implementation, and support of many of the A/E industry's core technologies over the last 20 years. Having spent ten years working with architects and a full range of engineers, Jim understands and appreciates the dynamics between technology, the project delivery process, and the many capabilities enabling client services provided by Burt Hill. He is currently directing Burt Hill’s effort to transition from traditional CAD systems to building information modeling and management. Jim has presented on the topics of Integrated Practice, Change Management Strategies, and BIM at numerous industry conferences including AIA/TAP, AGC, Build Boston, Build Pittsburgh, Traveler's PLUS. Jim also regularly attends and participates in industry efforts such as the AGC BIM Forum and buildingSMART's Interoperability initiative.
