Center for Advanced Research in Biotechnology (CARB II)

University of Maryland

Rockville, MD

140,000 square feet

The university envisioned the Center for Advanced Research in Biotechnology (CARB II) as a staple in the biotechnological research industry, featuring laboratories with the latest innovations in equipment and design.  The state-of-the-art research facility is attached to two earlier structures, built in 1989 and 1997.  The facility provides headquarters space for the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute, and advanced biotech research laboratories and computing facilities necessary for existing basic research programs and expansion into areas with greater commercial potential.  The integration of the research conducted at CARB II with other selected programs added capacities for manufacturing scale-up and activities necessary to both the research at CARB and regional biotechnology industries.
